Technical Project manager - TI2810-2

Job Summary

 

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and oversee the migration of on- premises databases to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex database migration projects, ensuring seamless transition with minimal disruption, and collaborating closely with stakeholders, technical teams, and third-party vendors. This role demands a strong understanding of cloud technologies, particularly GCP, database management systems, and best practices in cloud migration.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Management - 

o Develop, manage, and execute detailed project plans for the migration of

databases from on-premises to GCP.

o Define project scope, objectives, milestones, deliverables, and timelines.

o Monitor project progress and adjust as necessary to ensure successful and timely

completion.

o Identify and manage project risks, issues, and dependencies, ensuring that

mitigation strategies are in place.

 

Stakeholder Management - 

 

o Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, including business units, IT

teams, and third-party vendors.

o Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities clearly to stakeholders at all

levels.

o Facilitate meetings and discussions to gather requirements, provide updates, and

resolve issues promptly.

Team Collaboration - 

o Lead cross-functional teams, including database administrators, cloud engineers,

network/security specialists, and business analysts.

o Foster a collaborative work environment, ensuring that team members are aligned

and working towards common goals.

o Coordinate with external vendors and consultants to ensure adherence to project

timelines and deliverables.

 

Technical Oversight - 

 

o Collaborate with technical teams to design and implement best practices for

database migration and management on GCP.

o Ensure that security, compliance, and performance requirements are met

throughout the migration process.

 

o Assist in troubleshooting and resolving migration-related technical issues to

minimize disruption to business operations.

 

Resource Management - 

 

o Allocate resources effectively, managing budgets and expenses to ensure that

projects are delivered within financial constraints.

o Track and report on resource utilization and project expenditures.

Documentation and Compliance - 

o Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, risk logs,

and change requests.

o Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements during and

after the migration process.

o Prepare and present post-migration reports and analysis, highlighting successes,

challenges, and lessons learned.

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business

Administration, or a related field. A PMP or similar project management certification is

a plus.

5+ years of experience in IT Project Management, with at least 2 years of experience

managing database migrations, preferably from on-premises to cloud environments like GCP.

Proven experience with cloud technologies, particularly Google Cloud Platform

(GCP) services like Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Cloud Spanner, Cloud Storage, and

networking components.

Strong understanding of database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL,

PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and migration tools such as Google Database Migration

Service, Cloud Data Fusion, or third-party solutions like Striim and Datastream.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders, align business and technical

requirements, and drive teams to deliver on time.

Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to

interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in risk management and

change management.

Familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies is preferred.

Knowledge of IT compliance and security best practices related to database

management and cloud solutions.

 

Preferred Skills

  • GCP certifications such as Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Data Engineer.
  • Experience with automation tools like Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC) in cloud environments.
  • Understanding of data governance and database performance tuning techniques
