ROLE: GIS (Geographic Information Specialist) / Planning Support
Key Responsibilities/Job Functions:
•Perform analysis of and recommendations for different HFC (hybrid fiber coax) network technical options - (Updated on Aug/25)
•Prepare HFC cost estimates and produce CAs (Capital authority), BOM (Bill of materials) and POs (purchase order) for HFC national or inter regional projects. Coordinate spending and timelines. Ensure projected overruns are escalated in timely fashion.
•Joint HFC planning and provides liaison to fiber users with Rogers Wireless and other 3rd parties for fiber allocation.
•Provide input to engineering plans for HFC network expansions/upgrades in a timely manner to allow implementation to be within specification, on time and within budget.
•Assist in ensuring engineering plans meet HFC network needs in terms of reliability and capacity, and ensure the HFC Network is built for ease of use from an operations perspective.
•Assist in providing documents that assist other departments, eg RFQ (request for quote) for implementation
•Provide engineering support for the selection of routes to ensure optimum cost effectiveness and performance, and in the preparation of construction and permit drawings and bill of materials for new plant and forced projects.
•Provide engineering support for the operation, maintenance and restoration of the HFC network.
•Participate as lead for certain phases of complex HFC network projects.
•Provide input for the preparation for technical presentations and proposals on the Rogers HFC Network.
•May provide input or advice related to HFC network technical issues.
•Provide HFC network design alternatives and assist in optimizing fibre network capital and operating costs.
•Provide engineering support for the Rogers HFC Network and the implementation of new engineering plans.
•Accurately document details of Rogers HFC Network topology.
•Ability to investigate and resolve record discrepancies related to SpatialNET. GIS data as identifying in various reports
•Management of the Rogers HFC Network. HFC circuit assignments, HFC records management and HFC network documentation including HFC IRU records, splice logs, fiber counts and availability, loopback, splice and coupler locations, termination cabinets and panel locations.
MUST HAVE SKILLS:
•Experience with a major Telecom Service Provider or Cable Operator and direct involvement in building large HFC networks.
•3-5+ years full knowledge of SpatialNET RF/HFC/ISP Design and As-built input knowledge with data trouble shooting experience.
•Three to Five years of Network engineering and Planning experience.
•In depth knowledge of AutoCAD
•MS Office suite (excel, access, outlook)
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS:
•In-depth SpatialNET HFC Splicing knowledge
•Education experience should include undergraduate university degree or College Diploma in electrical engineering, Telecoms Engineering or equivalent PE , CET , SCTE, BCE, BCT, or BTS certification/designation is definitely and asset.
•RPATS (Rogers project activity tracking system) knowledge
•Excellent organizational, written and verbal skills.
•Ability to work within a dynamic team and organize time among multiple tasks.
