Position Overview

The Technical Translator is responsible for translating documents from English to French, in accordance with corporate standards. The Technical Translator also translates the product user interface including labels, messages and other text.

The Technical Translator will also work with an external translation agency to:
• expedite translation projects
• co-ordinate and prioritize work items
• validate the context and quality of translations and provide follow-up actions as required

The Technical Translator conducts terminological research and must establish strong working relationships with all relevant stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit the English documents to ensure good quality clear English is used before translation
• Liaise with subject matter experts to ensure the edited document still reflects the authors intent
• Translate documentation from English to French
• Conduct terminological research to establish domain appropriate terminology
• Proofread the quality of translated material by external resources and ensure documents meet established guidelines
• Liaise with subject matter experts to ensure the correct context of translations

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills both in French and in English
• A thorough knowledge of grammar and punctuation in both French and English
• Excellent text editing skills and experience
• Awareness and understanding of linguistic and cultural identity specific to the Québec market
• Superior organizational skills as well as close attention to details
• Ability to carry out in-depth research in order to solve terminological problems and to ensure correct context
• Positive people skills to interact with multiple client groups
• Ability to work independently or within a team, handle numerous projects simultaneously and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
• Experience effectively working remotely as part of a team
• A team player who is committed to delivering quality work and services
• Experience with SD Trados or other Computer Aided Translation (CAT) software
• Ability to work in a software development environment

Required Professional Designation/Certification

• Bachelor’s degree in Translation from a recognized academic institution or equivalent working experience

Required Experience
• A minimum of four years of technical translation experience within a software development environment, preferably in the Healthcare and/or IT sectors
