Manager of Tech Strategy: Western region Access planning (105382)

Position Overview:

A very crucial and visible Leadership position within the BNE organization responsible for Planning the Western Region (BC/AB) Wireline Access Network infrastructure supporting client`s Consumer & Business services growth. This position also support the planning of the Access Network infrastructure Sustainment and Modernization activities associated with Municipal driven infrastructure relocations and Access Network Break Fix related requirements.

  • Plan the implementation of the Access Network Growth and Sustainment programs on-time, on-budget, supporting L2R and customer first requirements
  • Plan the tactical implementation and delivery of Access Network architectures via plans (RDPs)
  • Responsible for the development, initiation, and release of network plans for the most effective solutions in the expansion and capacity augmentations of Access Network facilities to meet service requirements for Consumer growth and Business customers demand orders
  • Issue Plans in support of Sustainment related OSP facilities Relocations and Break Fix activities
  • Determination of complex network solutions, following client`s corporate strategy and network architecture guidelines as produced by Technology Strategy
  • Ensuring interlock with other Planning teams including IP Optical Planning as well as the Business & Consumer Marketing teams
  • Develop and execute annual Capital and Expense budgets in support of network growth, sustainment and evolution to align strategic direction plans with market-driven capacity requirements to create optimal capital and expense spend profiles
  • Lead a team of Management Professionals and/or Bargaining Unit employees
  • In addition, provide performance feedback in a timely, constructive and positive manner following the client`s Pay for Performance methodologies and processes
  • Constructively/Positively motivate and inspire team to ensure ongoing exceptional Team Engagement
Required Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of financial planning principles and analysis techniques
  • High degree of business acumen associated with the disciplines of finance and/or economics
  • Solid working knowledge of the telecommunications network as it relates to Access facilities equipment
  • Solid working knowledge of electronic concepts, equipment and configuration associated with the Access Network

Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Proven Leadership and interpersonal skills, with ability to guide people through the client`s processes and policies, and lead people in goal-setting and career planning
  • Demonstrated ability to produce plans based on sound engineering economic analysis and following guidelines established by network standards
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate and maintain work schedules
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Required Professional Designation/Certification:
  • Engineering University Degree, P.Eng or Equivalent
Required Experience:
  • 5+ years of equivalent telecommunications experience in Managing/Planning Access Network infrastructure, including DLCs, DSLAMs, OLTs, etc
  • Experience with managing vendors, suppliers and negotiating contracts/agreements a definite asset
  • Looking for individual with demonstrated/proven leadership capabilities and qualities, preference may be given to individuals that have prior Managerial experience leading a team of technical resource
