Network Technician – Wireless/Wireline
Location: Kelowna
                     

                   
Job Description:
                   
  • Implement and maintain Shaw Wireline Networks (IP Networks, DWDM, MPLS, CMTS Routers/Systems) throughout various technical facilities including Hub Sites/Headends, Transport Shelters, Repeater Stations, Microwave data links and Data Centers.
  • Installation/troubleshooting of various transport systems/equipment supporting Shaw Business products and services
  • Responsible for UTRAN (Wireless) network related to backhaul, Macro, Small Cell and Indoor Sites and equipment
  • Transport site acceptance and testing from internal/external service provider (new or upgrade/downgrade) including RFC testing
  • Preventive Maintenance (PM) routine of Access and Transport nodes on the field including battery, call test, Nodes, microwave measurements, safety audit, LOS verification and site housekeeping (grass/snow)
  • Troubleshoot and restore field Access and Transport service issues including minor/major/critical/service degradation
  • Manage field warehouse and warehousing including RMA on faulty parts
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement projects in conjunction with both Shaw and Freedom teams to ensure alignment with regional initiatives 
  • Assist with technical training and providing support to technical staff and Customer Care department
  • Responsible for site safety, performing site safety audits and maintenance
  • Various other duties as needed

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 
  • A degree/diploma in computer or telecommunication technology complemented by 3 to 5 years related experience
  • Experience with network planning and installation of fibre optic, CAT6 wiring and associated hardware and equipment
  • Operational and troubleshooting experience with Ethernet, optical transport, MPLS and other network environments is considered an asset
  • Participation in field work within various environments such as rooftops and remote areas, at all times of day, during all weather conditions
  • Working on ground equipment underneath towers (no climbing required or allowed beyond 10 feet)
  • Ability to accommodate occasional travel and to work various shifts including evenings, overnight, weekends, and statutory holidays
  • Available to participate in rotational on-call duties supporting a 24/7/365 operation
  • Some lifting of equipment up to and including 40 lbs.  
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal 
  • Goal oriented with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
