Supervisor- Mechanical

Northern, Ontario
This is a frontline operations leadership role in a paper mill (newsprint production). You are essentially the person in charge of the plant during your shift, especially on nights and weekends.
You are not just supervising you are:
  • Running production
  • Managing people
  • Handling emergencies
  • Acting as the on-site authority when senior management is not there

Position: Supervisor – Mechanical
Type: Full-time permanent
Location: Northern Ontario
Salary Range: $90–$105K/year + Benefits
Relocation: Will be paid
 
JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
Requirements:
  • College diploma or equivalent; Mechanical Engineering an asset.

  • 3-5 years supervisory experience in a related field.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Reliable and strong work ethic.

  • Responsibilities:

  • Promote and provide a safe workplace, seek improvements, support Health & Safety Program.

  • Lead a motivated, efficient, and engaged mechanical maintenance team of direct reports and provide career development opportunities.

  • Coach and mentor employees to ensure maximum performance.

  • Support compliance with collective agreement and sound union / management / employee relations.

  • Maintain a communications program to keep your team informed regarding news mill and department priorities.

  • Report to Superintendent – Mechanical.

  • Support and maintain an effective predictive and preventative mechanical maintenance program.

  • Plan and record maintenance activities by using the site maintenance management system.

  • Monitor the spare part inventories and keep equipment files up to date.

  • Report on the status of mechanical work at the weekly priority meeting.

  • Provide training recommendations to the Superintendent – Mechanical.

  • Maintain and effectively keep all mechanical equipment in a safe operating condition.

  • Report and explain deviations from planned activities.

  • Recommend changes / improvements to the maintenance management system and standards to the Superintendent – Mechanical.

  • Perform weekend duty as required.
