Job Overview:
The Director, Network Design and Planning, is accountable to lead the Network planning, design and technical architecture functions, within the Architecture & Innovation team.  This  includes the development and maintenance of an enterprise network vision, and roadmap the identification of technical standards and procedures as they apply to the lifecycle management of network infrastructure components (both hardware and IOS); provide guidance during the project architecture and design phases to ensure technical standards are adhered to, and produce technical network design documentation that will be used by deployment teams to implement network additions and changes in the environment.
The incumbent will provide both strategic and operational direction to a team of network designers to ensure established SLO’s and department objectives are met, while the solutions designed achieve the desired outcomes. The incumbent will provide technology and process guidance to project delivery teams as projects move from the architecture phase into the design/build phase.  Additional responsibilities include making infrastructure change recommendations, decommissioning projects, and infrastructure financial planning. 
  • Identifies and maintains an overall enterprise vision for both data and voice networks, including the investigation of future network trends that would reduce cost, improve resiliancy and provide superior performance.
  • Supports projects including the development of IT strategy and process definition based on user needs, viable technology and operation efficiency.
  • Acts as a key contributor to the multi year technology plan for IT, as well as assisting in the roll-out of all stated strategies and programs. Evaluate specifications and requirements for projects against available solutions. Recommend and make necessary improvements to configurations to achieve operating efficiencies
  • Initiates, participates, facilitates multidisciplinary performance improvement projects/teams
  • Financial Management - Budgetary planning for the network infrastructure upgrades and  decommissioning
  • Work, with the rest of the A&I Architecture, Design, Build and Support areas, in the budgeting process for IT infrastructure required to handle pending workloads of new or updated software systems.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, motivation, evaluation and assistance to team members to ensure teamwork and high performance in the accomplishment of all responsibilities and projects. Conducts performance reviews and recommends wage and promotion actions. Manage individual performance and productivity; regularly evaluate individual employee job performance through 1:1 meetings, providing constructive suggestions for improvement and rewarding accomplishments
  • Publish goals, criteria and key performance indicators in support of strategic planning
  • Set the top level metrics and targets, and the framework to develop corresponding measures that support over all IT 99.999% Service Level targets to the Business
  • Budgets/Cost Control : Plans for, and uses resources efficiently, always looks for ways to reduce costs, creates accurate and realistic budgets with zero variance, tracks and adjusts budgets, contributes to budget planning.  
Job Qualifications:
  • A degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Business or related discipline.
  • 7-10 year’s progressive experience with in an information technology environment within a lead role.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Network Design and Planning role, or equivalent Network Technology Architect role.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management related Skills and Experience with service and incident management expertise, establishing SLA/OLAs and reporting on KPIs
  • ITIL Foundations Certification, with Service Design training preferred.
  • Experience presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Network Certifications (CCNA / CCNP/CCNE) is required
  • Working knowledge of network architectures and components, including LAN/WAN, VoIP, Wireless, Switching, Routing (OSPF), Firewalls, VPN. SD-WAN
  •  Excellent people management and leadership skills, with the ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate with all levels of the organization, and technical and non- technical individuals.
