Reporting to a Supervisor, Infrastructure Services, the Enterprise Systems Technologist 2 is responsible for the day to day administration, tuning, performance and support of central server and storage architecture components and operating systems for enterprise-wide mission critical applications and services to our client and its partners. An incumbent monitors system performance; maintains high service availability; and provides advanced support and troubleshooting for complex technical problems associated with business systems, public safety computer aided dispatch (CAD), and records management system (RMS) environments.
  • Performs regular maintenance, system tuning and capacity management; ensures that core infrastructure including servers, network storage, tape systems, virtualization environments and hosted applications meet base performance standards and availability commitments; engages in continuous service improvement to help enhance performance of critical CAD, RMS and communications systems.
  • Deploys and maintains infrastructure resources in accordance with established standards, procedures and configuration processes; installs and configures physical or virtual server environments.
  • Develops and maintains advanced system/shell scripts to automate critical system processes and services.
  • Configures and maintains system management tools for patch management, operating system deployment, application updates, and remote system configuration.
  • Serves as a knowledge resource in matters related to server, storage, network and desktop infrastructure; provides advice; assistance and training to users and department staff on technical matters as required; suggests appropriate hardware and software solutions; provides oral and written presentations to internal staff on matters such as change, technological issues, and projects.
  • Assists in maintaining the security and integrity of operating systems and applications from unauthorized access and intrusion; monitors, controls and maintains user access and system and security event logs.
  • Responds to escalated alerts and troubleshoots complex incidents and service performance issues; serves as escalation point for critical incident support and performs root cause analysis for problems affecting production services and core systems; directs alerts to appropriate individuals and liaises with vendor representatives and suppliers as required.
  • Plans and coordinates small to medium scale projects such as core infrastructure upgrades, major equipment moves, data migrations, and hardware and software deployments.
  • Develops and executes checklists and test plans; prepares and maintains a variety of technical documents, records and statistics related to the work; procures hardware and software as required.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Completion of a degree or diploma program in computer science or a related discipline and ITIL Foundation v3 or later certification, plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of enterprise computer infrastructure as it relates to the work performed, including servers, network storage, tape systems, virtualization environments, networks and data centres.
  • Knowledge of the methods, procedures, concepts, standards and best practices applicable to the work.
  • Knowledge of enterprise system performance measurement, benchmarking, tuning and optimization techniques used in the work.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols, internet services and utilities as they relate to the work performed.
  • Ability to install, configure, maintain and administer virtualized environments and enterprise backup systems.
  • Ability to investigate and troubleshoot complex technological problems, and perform testing and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to administer enterprise messaging systems, directory services and associated client software.
  • Ability to plan, execute and coordinate small to medium sized technical deployment and implementation projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and provide advice and make presentations on technical matters.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Focussed on modernizing a legacy datacenter.
  • Finding solutions to complex issues while maintaining critical infrastructure availability.
  • Dynamic environment modernizing hardware and software systems/Key delivery responsibilities moving from legacy AIX/Linux environments to LINUX on CISCO UCS.
  • Moving to new datacenters with new CISCO UCS hardware whose commissioning offers both challenges and the opportunity to learn.
  • Considerable thought and effort to migrate legacy applications into the new environments.  Applied DEVOPS skills
  • The technological progress of 911 technologies is far from stagnant.  New challenges will always be knocking on the doors.
  • Configuration management and monitoring tools experience.
  • Extensive (intermediate-level) Linux Administration experience
  • Scripting - any of Python, Perl, Ruby, Bash, Korn Shell (ksh) strongly preferred.
  • Priority Management.
  • Data Centre Experience.
  • Unified Computing System (UCS) experience.
  • DevOps experience (Docker, Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, etc.)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Red Hat Satellite experience.
  • Distributed version control systems experience - Git / GitLab.
