Big Data Solutions Architect Expert
Position Purpose: The Expert level Big Data Solutions Architect will be accountable for the planning and implementation of comprehensive technical solutions that meet our clients' business requirements on high-impact projects. They will lead the evolution of the enterprise architecture and considers all the business drivers to arrive at the best solution. Leads development of the end to end technical solution architecture for high complexity and high risk IT initiatives. Balances the long-term (or “big picture”) and short-term implications of individual decisions and applies multiple solutions to business problems. Translates business needs into Enterprise Architecture requirements and identifies organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support the EA. Will provide leadership to lower level solution architects.

Key Accountabilities:
- Lead the creation or evolution of the enterprise architecture (EA) function or program
- Lead the identification and analysis of enterprise business drivers to derive enterprise business, information, technical and solution architecture requirements; analyzing industry, technology and market trends to determine their potential impacts on the enterprise
- Consult with program/project teams to fit solution to architecture across all viewpoints
- Identify organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support the EA
- Lead and facilitate the creation of governing principles to guide solution decision making for the enterprise
- Lead the development of an implementation plan for the EA, based on business requirements and IT strategies; overseeing EA implementation, ongoing EA refinement activities, and the documentation of all EA design and analysis work
- Ensure that the optimal governance structure and compliance activities (such as handling waivers) are associated with EA compliance

Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
- 15+ years of IT solution delivery, preferably playing a diverse set of roles (e.g. programmer, architect, project manager)
- 7+ years experience in software development and architecture, ideally with multiple technology platforms/languages such as JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS, Java Objective C, C++, Ruby, Python and/or Perl
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with Open Source Big Data technologies, including Hadoop
- Solid knowledge of networking, virtualization, compute, storage/backup, security, management/orchestration tools, and collaboration
- Extensive experience implementing software and/or solutions, in terms of both tools and systems administration, in the enterprise Linux/Unix, OpenStack or Microsoft environment
- Working knowledge of enterprise data and analytic disciplines such as Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Data Warehousing, and Big Data Analytics. Solid background in Database administration or design and knowledge of SOA architecture and data storage/partitioning best practices
- Proven experience with Software Development Life Cycles, especially as it applies to leading architecture of a large complex data-centric programs and projects, from business strategies and requirements data design, data sourcing, data transformation, analytics design, development, testing, and implementation
- Experienced with program/projects involving complex integration of disparate types of technologies/platforms
- Working knowledge of financial applications and host based systems would be an asset

Skills and Competencies:
- Detailed understanding of various database functions, Oracle, NoSQL, MongoDB, CouchDB,
- Expert understanding of data center management and orchestration, and enterprise application environments as well as key horizontal applications
- Deep understanding of the interdependency of domains, networking, compute, storage, security and the various current solution technologies. Knowledge and experience with multiple platform interoperability and utility/grid computing
- Expert knowledge and experience with virtualization tools and concepts, SAN, Server technologies and data center and cloud operations.
- Deep technical expertise in various back-office platforms and SOA API/service creation, with ability to go "hands on" and prototype/design proofs-of-concept
- Solid experience with a variety of technologies/approaches including J2EE, .NET, mainframe platform, packaged applications, multi-platforms applications, human workflow, EAI, SOA
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP data networking
- Expert architecture design and modeling capabilities
- Advanced ability to apply industry/technical knowledge to provide solutions that increase business results and/or minimize risk regarding the integration of applications across multiple product systems and delivery channels
- Knowledge of business re-engineering principles and processes
- Ability to get up to speed quickly on organizational structure, business strategies, processes, and terminology for the division supported
- Strong leadership skills that can effectively manage large cross functional technical teams and ability to define, influence and impact the technical direction
- Expert ability to quickly evaluate options, make decisions and execute within an intense high-tech environment
- Expert documentation, written and verbal communication skills
