The Database Administration team is dedicated to maintain the databases, performance and tuning, and new builds that support TELUS Health & Payment Solutions (THPS) to deliver healthcare systems, claims and financial processing solutions.  This expert team provide innovative solutions within a large enterprise, multi-sites environment. As a Senior Database Administrator, you’ll pioneer a Greenfield initiative - establish and define our MySQL practice.  Your thoughtful reasoning, creative ideas and recommendations will contribute towards the development of a new product as well as influence two existing products for THPS.  You’re known as a collaborative leader with a stellar reputation for delivering on projects and being an awesome coach and mentor. Here’s how
  • As an Expert in your field, you’ll
    • Plan, automate and implement database backup and recovery
    • Deliver capacity planning and system-level architecture
    • Create, configure, upgrade and optimize databases as well as driving the automation of these functions
    • Configure and optimize operating system and storage
    • Perform proactive and reactive database tuning
    • Maintain specialized environments such as log shipping, replication, cluster-based instances, etc
  • As a Security Steward, you’ll
    • Perform database security checks and audits, including compliance-related reporting and controls
    • Apply patches on a per need bases for security and bug fixes
    • Provide disaster recovery and fail over services
  • As a Business Owner, you’ll
    • Define and maintain quantitative SLA’s and support the enhancement of current service levels
    • Define and automate standard operations procedures (SOP)
    • Collaborate with database vendor support to resolve complex challenges
You’re the missing piece of the puzzle
With:
  • 7 or more years of related experience in a high traffic, enterprise environment
  • In-depth experience with MySQL includes sharding and partitioning
  • Experience using SQL & NoSQL technologies (Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL) and cache layer technologies (Redis and Redis as a Service)
  • Experience with logical/physical database design, clustering techniques, replication techniques and technologies
  • Experience with UNIX & Windows Shell and related scripting languages
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation frameworks (Puppet & Ansible), cloud infrastructure environments, data warehousing and enterprise IT concepts
  • Knowledge of auto heal/auto scale container frameworks such as OpenShift, Kuberbetes, CloudFoundry
  • Willingness and availability to work in a rotating on-call schedule
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Diploma in Technology
