Position Summary
The IP Network Engineer plans, designs, integrates, optimizes, and troubleshoots IP transport and backhaul networks supporting Radio Access Network (RAN) services. The role focuses on Cisco ASR920, NCS540, and NCS560 platforms and supports capacity expansion, modernization, software upgrades, and operational excellence across mobile transport infrastructure. The engineer collaborates with RAN, Transport, Core, Operations, and Deployment teams to deliver reliable, scalable IP backhaul performance in line with Ericsson transport planning and IP engineering scope.
Key Responsibilities
IP Capacity Planning & Network Engineering
- Plan end-to-end IP transport and backhaul capacity for wireless and enterprise services.
- Analyze traffic growth, utilization, congestion, and performance KPIs to determine expansion needs.
- Define transport planning requirements for RAN growth and network modernization.
- Assess hardware and software upgrade needs across Cisco transport infrastructure.
- Plan network migrations, technology refreshes, and end-of-life or end-of-support replacements.
IP Network Design
- Design scalable IP/MPLS transport networks for 4G, 5G, and enterprise services.
- Produce High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) documents.
- Define IP addressing, routing, VLAN, QoS, and resiliency architectures.
- Create implementation packages, engineering designs, bills of materials, and commissioning guides.
- Validate designs against customer standards, transport architecture guidelines, and operational requirements.
Integration & Commissioning Support
- Support integration and commissioning of Cisco ASR920, NCS540, and NCS560 platforms.
- Develop and validate configuration templates and automation scripts.
- Assist deployment teams with implementation, acceptance testing, and service activation.
- Validate routing, MPLS, QoS, synchronization, and Layer 2/Layer 3 services.
- Support software upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure modernization.
Operations & Troubleshooting
- Resolve IP transport, routing, switching, MPLS, QoS, and service-impacting issues.
- Analyze alarms, performance degradation, packet loss, latency, and outages.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Support customer escalations and operational incidents.
- Conduct post-implementation validation and service assurance.
Network Performance & Optimization
- Monitor utilization and identify capacity constraints.
- Recommend transport capacity upgrades and optimization opportunities.
- Assess traffic engineering needs and resiliency improvements.
- Support proactive lifecycle management and network health reviews.
- Improve efficiency through automation and process optimization.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate with RAN Planning, RF Engineering, Core Engineering, Integration, Operations, and customer teams.
- Participate in design reviews and customer technical workshops.
- Provide engineering support throughout planning, execution, and acceptance.
- Support vendor coordination and technical governance.

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Computer, or Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience
- At least five years of IP/MPLS transport network engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco ASR920, NCS540, and NCS560 platforms.
- Experience supporting large-scale mobile transport and IP backhaul networks.
- Proven capability in carrier-grade IP network design, integration, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Tier-1 service provider experience preferred.
