emergiTEL is hiring for a Principal Platform Architect for our client in the Telecommunications industry.
Contract Duration: 05 Months with possible extension
Pay Rate: $70 - $80/hour INC
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)

Job Description:

We are seeking a technical Principal Platform Architect to design, evolve, and scale client's cloud-native platform infrastructure. In this role, you will serve as a key technical authority for core engineering ecosystems, defining the architectural blueprints that power our distributed systems and modern deployment pipelines.
As a Principal Architect, you will collaborate with engineering teams and product stakeholders to ensure our platform is resilient, secure, observable, and built to handle steady scaling demands.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture and Distributed Systems

Define the architectural vision and infrastructure roadmap for our cloud-native application platform.
Design available, fault-tolerant distributed systems using standard microservices and containerized patterns.
Evaluate emerging cloud tools and establish engineering standards and best practices across teams.
Kubernetes and Container Orchestration
Architect and manage multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters optimized for performance and resource utilization.
Drive the adoption of standard cloud-native tooling, including GitOps workflows and ingress controllers.
Optimize container networking, storage volumes, and compute profiles across our primary cloud environment.
Identity and Security
Implement robust identity, authentication, and authorization frameworks using protocols like OAuth2 and OIDC.
Configure secure secrets management and maintain continuous compliance across platform infrastructure.
Partner with security teams to integrate automated vulnerability scanning into the CI/CD pipeline.
Scale and Performance Engineering
Design infrastructure capable of scaling efficiently to support consistent user traffic and data throughput.
Conduct deep-dive bottleneck analysis and capacity planning to guarantee baseline system durability.
Resolve data consistency and performance challenges inherent to cloud-hosted environments.
Observability and Telemetry
Maintain an enterprise observability strategy combining distributed tracing, logging, and metrics using tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
Define team-level Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Objectives (SLOs) to minimize troubleshooting times.
Leadership and Collaboration
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to senior engineers, cultivating a strong culture of engineering excellence.
Author architectural decision records (ADRs) to align cross-functional engineering teams.
Advise engineering leadership on strategic technology choices and infrastructure cost optimization.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 8+ years of software engineering and infrastructure experience, with at least 2+ years leading architectural initiatives for a scalable cloud platform.
Cloud Expertise: Strong production experience with a major cloud provider environment (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Distributed Systems: Proven experience designing and operating distributed architectures, including familiarity with message brokers (such as RabbitMQ or Kafka).
Kubernetes Proficiency: Hands-on knowledge of the core container ecosystem, container runtimes, and standard Kubernetes scheduling and networking.
Security and IAM: Solid understanding of identity management platforms, access management, and microservices security policies.
Coding Proficiency: Strong scripting and programming skills in languages common to infrastructure tooling (such as Go, Python, or Bash) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical problems into understandable goals for the team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience setting up and migrating workloads using GitOps tools (like ArgoCD or Flux).
Familiarity with database scaling strategies, including caching and basic replication configurations.

MUST Haves: Cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, identity, security, Kubernetes, observability, and scale design.
