Superintendent – Steam / Utilities - First Class Engineer

Position: Superintendent – Steam / Utilities
Location: Kapuskasing, ON – Papermill
Duration 12 to 18 Months 

Requirements:
  • Language: English (spoken and written) and French is an asset.
  • Education: 1st Class Operating Engineer Ticket (TSSA)
  • 7 - 10 years experience in the field or related field.
  • Experience in maintenance, operation, and trouble shooting of boilers, steam turbines and related systems.
  • Excellent leadership qualities and team management abilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Report to the Mill Manager.
  • Supervise, guide and direct reports.
  • Support the Steam, EƯluent Treatment, and Yard Departments.
  • Using an entrepreneurial approach, manage and lead the Steam Plant manufacturing group to ensure the achievement of annual operating budgets, the optimization of the processes supporting the manufacture of pulp and newsprint, while ensuring that these processes adhere to regulations and environmental guidelines.
  • Ensure alignment to the Results Management Framework and working within a teamwork environment to maximize the profitability of the site.
  • Manage and lead the Steam Plant manufacturing group to meet pre-determined production budgets at minimum cost while fully meeting customer specifications and all applicable environmental guidelines and regulations.
  • Ensure the optimization and improvement of the manufacturing processes from cost, productivity, quality, and environmental perspectives to maximize mill profitability.
  • Maximize production capability (employees, machines, materials, methods, processes) through application of technology (manufacturing/work process design and improvement and the right assets), best work practices and management of continuous change.
  • Maximize human resource eƯectiveness in the Steam department through open and capable union / management / employee relations, a participative approach to managing, eƯective coaching and mentoring, accountable leadership, and systematic training.
  • Ensure standards for housekeeping are developed and maintained for the Steam department.
  • Ensure eƯective safety practices are maintained and followed across the Steam department to continually improve safety results.
  • Maintain and develop operational plans to improve the combustors and turbo- generator manufacturing productivity and stability, reduce natural gas and mill steam/air consumption.
  • Accountable to lead and coordinate manufacturing group members and supporting resources to drive operational (productivity, quality, cost) and CAPEX plans to resolution.
  • Accountable, within a framework, to develop the annual budget for Steam department. Advise and/or recommend changes or opportunities outside of direct area of accountability that will contribute to optimizing the short and long-term growth objectives of the site, to the Mill Manager.
