Job Summary
The Government of Alberta is seeking an experienced Front-End Designer to join its Digital Design & Delivery (3D) division. This team partners with ministries across the province to modernize digital services through human-centered design, agile delivery, and digital transformation initiatives.
The successful consultant will collaborate with cross-functional product teams to design intuitive, accessible, and user-focused digital experiences for Albertans. This role involves creating prototypes, wireframes, design systems, usability testing, accessibility compliance, and contributing throughout the Agile software development lifecycle.
This is a primarily remote opportunity; however, candidates must be available to attend quarterly onsite meetings and workshops in Edmonton, Alberta, as well as occasional travel within Alberta for field research when required (travel to Edmonton for meetings is at the consultant's expense).
Key Responsibilities
- Design modern, user-centered digital experiences for Government services.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, mockups, and high-fidelity UI designs.
- Develop reusable design systems, component libraries, and style guides.
- Produce build-ready design specifications for development teams.
- Conduct usability testing and provide recommendations.
- Ensure designs comply with accessibility standards (WCAG).
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Reviews, Retrospectives, and Backlog Grooming.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Developers, UX Researchers, Business Analysts, and stakeholders.
- Present design concepts and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Support digital transformation initiatives across multiple Government projects.
