emergiTEL is hiring a Senior Project Manager (IT) for a 12-month contract with a Public Sector Client supporting an Enterprise Messaging Modernization initiative.

Project Overview
The project supports Cloud Platform Services and Artificial Intelligence initiatives focused on modernizing enterprise technology services and enabling employees to work more collaboratively and efficiently.
The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for the planning, coordination, documentation and delivery of multiple AI, Microsoft 365 and Cloud-related projects, from analysis through implementation.
The role will work closely with business and IT leadership, project sponsors, technical teams, vendors and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and alignment with enterprise objectives, policies, standards and architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the coordination and completion of multiple IT projects from initiation through implementation.
- Develop project charters, business plans, project plans, schedules and supporting documentation.
- Define project scope, objectives, assumptions, timelines, resource requirements, risks, benefits and budgets.
- Manage project resources, dependencies, interdependencies and governance.
- Work with business and IT leadership to develop and deliver enterprise technology solutions.
- Develop recommendations related to resource requirements, dependencies, methodology and policy implications.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with project sponsors, vendors, business stakeholders and technical teams.
- Monitor project progress against milestones, objectives, budget and resources.
- Identify, track and manage project risks, issues and dependencies.
- Prepare project status reports and executive-level presentations.
- Produce deliverables for steering committees, internal support teams and project stakeholders.
- Develop project schedules, work plans and implementation strategies.
- Provide guidance to project resources regarding priorities and deliverables.
- Develop requirements documentation as required.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and implementation readiness.
- Provide leadership and assistance with Change Management and Communication Management.
- Evaluate project outcomes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure projects follow established PMO standards, methodologies and governance practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience as a Senior IT Project Manager / Project Manager.
- Proven experience managing complex IT projects from analysis through implementation.
- Experience with Cloud, Microsoft 365, AI, infrastructure or enterprise technology projects.
- Working knowledge of IT infrastructure environments, including workstation/server hardware, software deployment strategies and application architectures.
- Strong understanding of IT Change Management and Communication Management.
- Experience with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) frameworks.
- Strong project governance, risk, issue and dependency management experience.
- Experience managing multiple projects and project resources simultaneously.
- Strong stakeholder and vendor management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong documentation, reporting and presentation capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment.
Public Sector Experience
Experience working with a Canadian public sector organization is considered an asset.
Knowledge of public-sector IT policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and governance practices is also an asset.
Work Location & Onsite Requirements
This is a remote position within Canada.
Due to network and data security requirements, the resource must perform the work from within Canada.
The resource must also be available to attend onsite meetings or work sessions in Edmonton when required and with reasonable notice.
Onsite sessions may include:
- Strategic discussions
- Architectural and technical discussions
- Project team meetings
- Meetings with senior management and executives
- Business/client stakeholder meetings
Onsite attendance may be required up to 3–4 times per month.
Travel time and expenses related to transportation, accommodation, meals, commuting or relocation will not be covered.
Equipment Requirements
The resource must provide their own computer and related equipment.
The computer must use a modern version of Windows or MacOS compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and required remote-access software.
Windows is preferred for compatibility.
The contractor is responsible for their own computer, software, desk/chair, printer, office supplies and other equipment required to perform the work remotely.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a highly organized and experienced Senior IT Project Manager with a strong background in enterprise technology delivery and experience across Cloud, Microsoft 365, AI, infrastructure and digital transformation.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent project governance, stakeholder management, communication, documentation, change management and UAT capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
