Digital Architect

emergiTEL is hiring a Digital Architect for our client in the Public Sector / Government Digital Services industry. This is a Contract role.

Contract Duration: 3 months initially, with possibility of extension up to 24 months
Location: Canada – Remote
Work Arrangement: Primarily Remote; occasional meetings/work sessions in Alberta may be required
Hours: Full-time, 7.25 hours/day

Role Overview

Our client is seeking up to three Digital Architects to support digital transformation, service innovation, program review, and digital service delivery initiatives. The Digital Architect will work within cross-functional product teams to design and deliver user-centric digital services using modern architecture, agile delivery, and iterative development practices.

The successful candidate will provide architectural leadership, guide solution design, support technical discovery, and ensure digital services align with enterprise architecture, technical standards, common platforms, and long-term architectural vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead solution architecture for digital services and develop overall architectural plans.
  • Analyze existing system environments, integrations, system boundaries, and technical dependencies.
  • Provide recommendations, prototypes, and technical feasibility assessments.
  • Develop scalable solution designs that support iterative Agile delivery.
  • Assess architectural impacts, risks, exposure, and technical dependencies.
  • Guide development teams through implementation and technical decision-making.
  • Define integration approaches and target-state system interactions.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage common components, platforms, and reusable digital capabilities.
  • Review code changes and contribute to development when required.
  • Provide detailed technical guidance for solution implementation.
  • Coach and mentor product teams on architecture and technical practices.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, developers, architects, designers, and other stakeholders.
  • Create architecture documentation, diagrams, presentations, and other materials for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to architecture principles, standards, service quality metrics, and continuous improvement.
  • Balance technical requirements and architecture priorities with business and user needs.

Ideal Candidate

  • Senior-level experience in Software Architecture / Solution Architecture / Digital Architecture.
  • Strong understanding of modern software architecture and digital service delivery.
  • Experience working in Agile, multidisciplinary product teams.
  • Strong technical understanding of current and emerging technologies.
  • Experience with APIs, integrations, cloud platforms, distributed systems, and modern application architectures.
  • Ability to review and contribute to software development/code changes.
  • Strong understanding of system boundaries, integration patterns, reusable components, and enterprise architecture.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience providing technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship.

Work Arrangement

This is a primarily remote role within Canada. The resource may occasionally be required to attend meetings or work sessions in Alberta. Any required travel to Alberta would be at the contractor's expense.
