Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Telecom Field Technicians to support wireless telecommunications infrastructure across Ontario and Prince Edward Island. This role is focused on ground-level work at telecommunications sites. The successful candidates will work primarily at the base of cell sites, within equipment shelters, cabinets, compounds, and ground-level telecom infrastructure.
Note: This is NOT a tower climbing or rigging position. Candidates will not be required to climb towers or perform tower rigging work.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading telecom equipment and associated infrastructure at wireless sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on field work at wireless/cellular telecommunications sites.

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and replace ground-level telecom equipment.

  • Work within equipment shelters, huts, cabinets, compounds, and site enclosures.

  • Perform installation and maintenance of:

    • DC power systems

    • Rectifiers and power distribution equipment

    • Batteries and battery cabinets

    • Grounding and bonding systems

    • Fiber optic equipment and connections

    • Ethernet and telecom cabling

    • Transmission equipment

    • Base station/radio equipment located at ground level

    • Cabinets, racks, and associated telecom hardware

  • Perform cable installation, routing, termination, labeling, and testing.

  • Assist with equipment upgrades, replacements, expansions, and site modernization.

  • Perform site inspections and identify equipment, cabling, power, or environmental issues.

  • Troubleshoot telecom equipment and escalate issues when required.

  • Read and interpret telecom drawings, site documentation, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts.

  • Conduct basic testing and verification of installed equipment.

  • Complete site documentation, photos, checklists, and field reports.

  • Follow all customer, safety, quality, and site-access requirements.

  • Coordinate with remote NOC/operations teams and other field technicians when troubleshooting site issues.

  • Support scheduled maintenance and emergency/outage restoration activities.

  • Travel to multiple telecom sites within the assigned territory.

Required Technical Experience

  • Previous experience working as a Telecom Field Technician, Wireless Technician, Cell Site Technician, Telecom Installation Technician, or similar role.

  • Hands-on experience working at cellular/wireless telecommunications sites.

  • Experience working at the ground/base of telecom sites rather than exclusively performing tower work.

  • Knowledge of telecom equipment, cabling, DC power, grounding, and site infrastructure.

  • Experience with fiber optic and/or copper cabling.

  • Ability to troubleshoot telecom hardware and connectivity issues.

  • Ability to read technical drawings, site plans, wiring diagrams, and installation documentation.

  • Familiarity with wireless network infrastructure and cell site environments.

  • Comfortable working independently in the field and traveling between sites.

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • Strong safety awareness and ability to follow site-specific safety procedures.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience supporting LTE/5G wireless networks.

  • Experience with Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, or other wireless network equipment.

  • Experience with DC power systems, rectifiers, batteries, and power distribution.

  • Fiber splicing or fiber testing experience.

  • Experience with optical transmission equipment.

  • Experience with RF equipment located at ground level.

  • Experience with site acceptance testing and commissioning.

  • Experience using telecom test equipment.

  • Experience working with telecom construction/installation drawings.

  • Previous experience supporting major Canadian telecom carriers or tower companies.

Important – Role Clarification

This position is NOT for Tower Riggers.
The technician will primarily work at the base of the cell site, including:

  • Equipment shelters/huts

  • Ground-level cabinets

  • Telecom compounds

  • Battery/power systems

  • Rectifiers

  • Fiber and transmission equipment

  • Grounding systems

  • DC power distribution

  • Ground-level radio/baseband equipment

  • Cable installation and termination
