The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Director or Vice President of Engineering to lead the strategy, architecture, development, and delivery of their core software platform.

This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for both technical direction and engineering execution. The successful candidate will partner closely with executive leadership and Product to define the long-term technology roadmap while building and leading a high-performing engineering organization.

This role is ideal for someone who combines deep technical expertise with a proven track record of scaling SaaS platforms and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the long-term engineering and technology strategy.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing software engineering team.
• Drive architectural decisions that improve scalability, security, reliability, and performance.
• Partner closely with Product, Operations, and executive leadership to align technology initiatives with business objectives.
• Establish and promote engineering best practices across software development, testing, deployment, and operational excellence.
• Continue advancing the organization's adoption of AI throughout both the product and software development lifecycle.
• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure the platform remains secure, resilient, and capable of supporting continued business growth.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will bring a combination of technical depth, leadership experience, and strong product-thinking capabilities.

Required Experience

• Progressive career growth from Software Engineer into Engineering Leadership.
• Experience leading engineering teams within a SaaS or product-focused technology company.
• Strong background designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed cloud platforms.
• Demonstrated success supporting products with recurring revenue models rather than project-based delivery organizations.
• Experience establishing engineering standards, architecture governance, and software development best practices.
• Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture, APIs, security, DevOps, CI/CD, and modern software engineering practices.

AI & Engineering Excellence

Our client is looking for a leader who understands how AI can materially improve engineering effectiveness.

The ideal candidate will have experience implementing AI-enabled development practices that improve productivity, software quality, and delivery velocity—not simply personal experience using AI tools. They should be able to demonstrate measurable improvements to engineering workflows through thoughtful adoption of AI.

Technical Leadership

Although this is an executive leadership position, technical credibility remains essential. The successful candidate should be comfortable participating in architecture discussions, reviewing technical approaches, and earning the confidence and respect of senior software engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing AI, computer vision, machine learning, or intelligent automation solutions.
• Experience integrating with enterprise platforms such as TMS, WMS, ERP, IoT, or other operational technologies.
• Experience scaling engineering organizations during periods of rapid company growth.
• Experience leading distributed or international engineering teams.
