Manager of Payroll

emergiTEL is hiring a Manager, Payroll for our client in the healthcare and services industry. This is a Permanent position.
Compensation: $84,000 – $105,000 per year
Location: Greater Toronto Area (Hybrid – Brampton)

Job Description

About the Opportunity
Our client, a leading Canadian organization in the healthcare and services sector, is seeking a Manager, Payroll to lead and oversee the day-to-day payroll operations. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and continuously evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements
  • Review and approve payroll data, including timesheets, ensuring accurate processing and reporting
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, including reconciliations and general ledger alignment
  • Resolve complex payroll inquiries from employees and management
  • Maintain, enhance, and continuously improve payroll systems, processes, and controls
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian payroll legislation, payroll taxes, and employment standards
  • Prepare and review year-end payroll reporting, including T4s, reconciliations, and statutory filings
  • Manage employee payroll records, including new hires, changes, and terminations
  • Collaborate closely with Human Resources on benefits administration and employee data accuracy
  • Support financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting activities related to payroll
  • Produce regular and ad-hoc payroll reports for Finance, leadership, and regulatory bodies
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency and service delivery
  • Support cross-functional projects with Finance and other departments
  • Administer executive payroll and handle highly confidential and sensitive transactions

Qualifications

  • Canadian Payroll designation (PCP or CPM)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive payroll experience, including people leadership
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • High level of accuracy, discretion, and attention to detail
