Senior Systems Engineer

Toronto, Ontario, Canada  |  Contract (April 20, 2026 – July 31, 2026)  |  Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Hourly Rate: $40.00 – $50.00 per hour

About the Role

Our client is looking for a hands-on Senior Systems Engineer who can step in quickly and support a small, high-performing infrastructure team. This person will take ownership of enterprise systems, ensure stability across environments, and act as a key escalation point for complex technical issues.

This is a practical, execution-focused role — ideal for someone who is comfortable working independently, collaborating globally, and managing both on-prem and cloud infrastructure. On-call rotation is required (weekly, low volume, with occasional after-hours support).

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Supporting and maintaining enterprise IT infrastructure across multiple regions

• Managing hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud such as Microsoft Azure and VMware)

• Acting as an escalation point for critical system and infrastructure issues

• Monitoring system performance and proactively addressing risks

• Managing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes

• Ensuring systems meet security and compliance requirements (e.g., General Data Protection Regulation)

• Collaborating with global IT teams across time zones

• Supporting infrastructure-related projects and standardization initiatives

• Maintaining clear technical documentation

What You Bring

• 7+ years of hands-on experience in systems engineering

• Strong experience supporting enterprise environments (Windows Server, Linux)

• Solid background in virtualization (VMware / Hyper-V)

• Proven experience working in hybrid cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or similar)

• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls)

• Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions

• Familiarity with monitoring tools and infrastructure performance tuning

• Scripting/automation experience (PowerShell, Python)

• Ability to troubleshoot complex issues independently

• Strong communication skills and ability to work with global teams

Compensation

The hourly rate for this contract position is $40.00 to $50.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
