The Senior Mainframe Application Developer will be responsible for end-to-end design, development, maintenance, and support of large-scale mainframe applications. The role involves working with hierarchical databases, legacy systems, and enterprise-grade tools while collaborating with cross-functional IT teams throughout the SDLC.
Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain mainframe applications
Translate system and business specifications into working, tested solutions
Perform IMS database reorganization, unload/reload, and recovery activities
Manage server-side logic and ensure performance, reliability, and responsiveness
Troubleshoot production issues and provide post-implementation support
Maintain technical and user documentation
Participate in design walkthroughs and structured development methodologies
Collaborate with developers, analysts, and stakeholders to meet delivery timelines
10+ years of experience in programming and systems analysis
10+ years working with structured development methodologies
10+ years in full lifecycle application development (design, code, test, debug, document)
10+ years experience with hierarchical databases:
IMS DB
VSAM
IMS DB Reorganization, Unload/Reload, Recovery Control
10+ years hands-on experience with:
Enterprise COBOL
Assembler
JCL
TSO/ISPF
REXX
CLIST
BTS
IMS DB/DC (Full Function & FASTPATH)
CA Telon (3GL development)
IBM ACB, BDB, PSB generation
CA Easytrieve, CA SAR
CA Scheduler, File-Aid, Abend-Aid
IBM 3270 SNA, NDM and related communication protocols
Experience with property registration systems (PPSR or similar) preferred
Experience working in large enterprise environments with defined policies and procedures
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Clear verbal and written communication
Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
Proven ability to meet deadlines in high-dependency environments
Experience with internet-ready applications and middleware
Knowledge of rapid application development (RAD) methodologies
Experience reviewing and modifying installation scripts
Understanding of information management principles and accessibility standards
