XP11252022-2 Fibre Construction Technician

Key responsibilities include:
  • Prime in-field technical contact for support groups in the areas of network construction, repair, maintenance and support.
  • Responsible for project splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Support in handling emergency escalations in a prompt and efficient manner.
  • Work with external contractors on the scheduling and resolution of project quality and safety issues.
  • Daily Travel throughout designated area 95% of the time.

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • 1 year related work experience and a degree/diploma from a related discipline.
  • Certified Fibre Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent experience
  • Experience with fibre optic network deployments.
  • Experience with Fibre Optic troubleshooting tools & test sets (OTDR, Power Meters)
  • Proficient in outside plant fibre splicing including building fibre enclosures and prep & splice both loose tube and ribbon fibre.
  • Proficient in using splicing testing and troubleshooting tools such as OTDR and LFD.
  • Knowledge in telecom construction including: Fibre Optic and copper cabling, punching, proper cable pulling techniques, racking, ground systems, static precautions, non-ionizing transmission safety, Occupational Health and safety as it relates to construction.
  • Understanding around AC and DC power systems and conversions including: voltage and wiring of single and poly-phase alternating current cables, direct current, and negative grounded direct current.
  • Experience with identifying all major types of RF, Fiber and power connectors.
  • Experience with the construction and maintenance of fibre networks.
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, verbal, listening and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and interact with groups throughout the organization.
  • Capable of working on a variety of projects and coordinating multiple priorities.
  • Strong Troubleshooting skills
