The British Columbia IP/Optical Network Planning team plans and budgets the growth and sustainment of the optical transport and IP networks in the province through constant architectural and technological evolutions. This network supports services for all of customers, both consumer and business, in all areas of British Columbia. We plan our network to ensure customers are getting high quality, reliable services that is designed and implemented cost effectively.

Be part of a team that is accountable for the timely development, communication and implementation of IP and/or transport network deployment plans, evolution strategies, and various assessments that directly impact the quality and reliability of our network. These network upgrades provide the capacity, capability and reliability required and expected by our customers. You are more than an engineer. You will bring forth your critical thinking nature with your curiosity and understanding of key business drivers to form holistic perspectives. You will make your mark by ensuring our plans align with corporate objectives and strategies within the parameters of budget allocations, regulatory requirements, utilization, and modernization objectives.
What you’ll do
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal/external customers, suppliers, and other entities and partners; and managing these relationships to positively influence decisions
  • Provide engineering and planning support for sales inquiries and bid support
  • Monitor network capacity and utilization for the assigned portion of the network, and issuing complete and accurate tactical plans that ensure the cost effective and timely implementation of network additions, modernization and rearrangements; with the goal of maximizing asset utilization and minimizing incremental capital investment
  • Develop and analyze alternatives; prepare and present formal business cases as required
  • Prepare and update capital and expense budgets and Network Investment Plans
  • Present plans and recommendations to the management team and/or other parties for information and approval as required
  • Manage workload and outside influences to ensure that problems are resolved in a timely and cost effective manner
  • Maintain and develop databases or other tools that assist the team with the yearly planning function

What you bring
  • Knowledgeable in fiber optics and related technologies, including optical networking technologies, IP technologies and related services
  • Understanding of network planning and the associated business/economic analysis
  • Skilled in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite of products (mandatory) and SAP (preferred)
  • Passionate about learning different technologies and database programming
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to present rationale for decision making
  • University degree in Engineering or related degree
  • PEng
  • Access database or other programming language
  • Willingness to take initiative and drive improvements
  • Ability to develop optimum/cost effective strategies while ensuring plans are aligned with corporate objectives and strategies
  • Previous experience in the telecommunications industry
