Senior Network Designer (focused on wireless vs. wireline)

Key Responsibilities/Job Functions:

Individuals within the Senior Network Designer job family are responsible for the full lifecycle of technology infrastructure systems, including identification of need, sourcing, design, engineering, development, testing, deployment and third level support.

They are expected to identify where the adoption and standardization of both existing and new technologies and architecture throughout the company will provide improved service and reduced risk at lower cost. They should be able to influence management at all levels in their acceptance and adoption of new technologies. They are knowledgeable of the full range of technologies available and build productive and beneficial relationships with their vendors. Having confirmed the company’s and the relevant users’ global requirements, they evaluate and select the appropriate technologies, ensuring full compatibility with all other appropriate existing and anticipated new technologies.

Often in partnership with the vendors, Senior Network Designer are responsible for engineering and customizing solutions, so that they integrate with the overall technical architecture. They are responsible for planning for technology infrastructure deployment company-wide.

They also serve as internal subject matter experts, consultants and troubleshooters, with responsibility for ensuring stake-holder satisfaction with infrastructure technology. Additionally, they are responsible for tracking technical and business trends, assessing their impact and developing strategies to leverage this information to build solutions and mitigate risks and plan the retirement and transition of technologies at the end of their lifecycle.

Senior Network Designer develop significant technical skills in one or more technologies such as; networks, hardware, operating systems, databases, web-servers and mainframes, and require well-developed project and people management skills.

Author technical engineering documentation (eg. Engineering Design Specification Documents, Acceptance Test Plans, Roadmap Plans, Work orders and Method of Procedures (MoP) which facilitates configuration changes, software/hardware upgrades, validations, E2E service testing and platform integration)

Influence Wireless and Wireline Voice technology and policy decisions made across the appropriate functional organization around architecture, design strategies and standards.

Able to review, understand and enforce implementation of relevant standards (such as 3GPP, IETF, Cable Labs, TM Forum), during Solution design phase.

Maintain list of portable locations (LNP) across Canada for all Rogers lines of business and act as the primary Rogers contact for numbering aspects of Local Number Portability.

Development of appropriate traffic routing to accommodate the deployment of new network services.

Provide ongoing optimization of network routing resulting in cost savings.

Experience and Education Preferred:

5-10 years of technical experience delivering large scale projects, with multiple vendors, and functional teams on Wireless and Wireline Voice Networks

Expert knowledge on Ericsson MSC/RNC/BSC/MGw/MRS/BGF platforms.

Telephony network routing and services (Local, Toll, AIN, Toll-Free, LNP, etc.)

Strong hands-on experience of Translations & Routing for core switching technologies (Ribbon/Nortel, Ericsson MSS), engineering parameters and peripherals

Expert knowledge of Canadian Numbering architecture and requirements.

Expert knowledge of Canadian Voice Interconnection architecture and requirements.

In-depth knowledge of Canadian LNP architecture.

Strong hands-on experience of Dial Plan architecture and Number Administration.

In-Dept knowledge of Network traffic scripting in Wireless and Wireline environments.

Knowledgeable of Telecom Industry standards and forums, such as 3GPP, IETF, Cable Labs, TM Forum, …
