Rogers is looking for a Home Device Engineer that has real-world experience in the research, design and introduction of wireline devices within a Service Operator ecosystem. A successful candidate will have a strong knowledge base in the device industry, landscape and future technology. Reporting to the Manager of Device Technology, the successful candidate will have knowledge of Smart Home Devices: Home Networking Devices, Modems, Home Video Devices, IP Home Phone Products, Home IOT, and develop technology strategies and play a critical leadership role in how devices are introduced and managed on the Rogers Network. This position requires a forward thinker, who is passionate about their work, can anticipate needs and has a desire to innovate.
-Introduction of new Device Technology
-Provide technical leadership and requirements on the latest wireline device technologies across video, voice and data services.
-Oversees device architecture implementation and ongoing design refinement activities
-Contribute to and maintain 1-3 year technology strategies and device roadmaps.
-Build and maintain device technology lab environments and automated testing methodologies
-Identify opportunities to improve the customer experience with the device management platforms
-Certify wireline devices and gateways (ex. DOCSIS, PON, STBs, VoIP devices, Wi-Fi extenders, etc.) based on established testing processes
-Lead technical evaluation of vendor products and provide recommendations to Business and Senior Management.
-Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop detailed network designs
-Provide technical deployment guidelines for managed devices.
-Support device and service trials, including the introduction of new devices to the Production network.
-Conduct problem analysis, problem reproduction, and work with vendors on resolution of technical issues to ensure timely delivery of funded projects.
-Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences or equivalent technical discipline.
-10+ years of experience or equivalent relevant experience.
-Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps processes
-Knowledge in IPTV and Digital TV Systems, including HDMI, DRM, OTT applications, video processing and content delivery
-Knowledge of fiber access technologies (i.e. GPON, EPON, xPON)
-Knowledge of CableLabs (DOCSIS, PacketCable), DOCSIS standards, Wi-Fi technologies, SIP based VoIP protocols, MoCA, etc.
-Knowledge of wireless protocols and standards (WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee), including Wi-Fi Alliance and IEEE (802.11x)
-Knowledge of device architecture, ecosystems and interoperability.
-Knowledge in IP network concepts: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, VPN, etc.
-Experience with Wi-Fi testing, test tools and diagnostics.
-Experience with RESTful/HTTP web services and APIs.
-Experience working with data analytics and big data queries, such as Splunk, Azure and PowerBI
-Experience with TR-069 testing and device diagnostics.
-Experience working on CMTS and diagnosing RF signaling issues.
NICE TO HAVE:
-Knowledge of CWMP device management protocol and data models.
-Knowledge of Smart Device ecosystem, including: Digital assistants (e.g. Amazon Echo, Google Home, etc), Home Security (e.g. Nest/Ring doorbells/cameras) and Home Automation (e.g. Smart lightbulbs/plugs/switches, Ecobee/Nest thermostats etc.)
-Experience in testing SIP/IMS client, IP phone, ATA and TR104.
-Ability to configure cable modems and debug cable modem issues.
-Knowledge of the Canadian public alert services, CAP-CP signaling protocol and alert delivery in digital TV and IPTV ecosystems a benefit
