Senior Project Manager

Description of Work:
The Senior Project Manager reporting to the Director of the IMO is an advanced level project management position that is achieved after a minimum of twelve years of practical project management experience working on a variety of corporate strategic projects and business case development.

The projects managed by the Senior Project Manager have a high impact (major change, risk, visibility or financial components) on the organization. This position utilizes highly advanced skills in project management, team management, business analysis, communications, risk management, budget management, quality management and interpersonal relations to manage increasingly complex projects which are mostly cross-functional in nature. These complex projects typically represent a moderate to high level of risk and affect multiple business areas.

The ability to think strategically and to understand organizational implications and risks is also a key success factor in this role. The Senior Project Manager must be able to successfully navigate highly sensitive/political issues with tact and sensitivity, anticipate and define a clear direction based on potentially opposing stakeholder viewpoints, and be able to use creative problem solving skills to attain project objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management

Apply established IMO standards to conduct opportunity assessments, and to create business cases and recommendations
Facilitate market research, technical, or feasibility analysis activities as required
Maintains a high standard of administrative efficiency by ensuring project related information is kept up to date, and that planning and forecasting processes are supported.
Manages, or plays a key role in projects to achieve successful outcomes , either in their own right or as part of wider business transformation initiatives.
Provide leadership and unbiased guidance to business areas to successfully deliver a recommendation that is in the best interest of the corporation and will provide a solution that meets the needs of the business area for an appropriate length of time
The Senior Project Manager works closely with the Director to create and execute the IMO maturity model and to increase project management understanding and competency within the organization.
Understand alignment of the business case results to corporate strategic and/or department tactical plans
Work closely with departments and the business analysis area to validate business needs and requirements

Required Skills and Experience:
A minimum of 10+ years spent in the area of Project Management
Bachelors degree in Business or IT
Business, operations or functional management experience in a corporate environment is and asset
Experience managing projects through all stages of the software development lifecycle
Previous experience in a consulting environment is preferred
Previous experience of major process change or operations projects
Certified Project Management Professional Certification (PMP)
Developed interpersonal relations and communication skills
Experience in working on different types of tactical projects
Experience with project management software, tools, and methodologies

Core Skills
Excellent negotiating skills, with an ability to influence/sell solutions to internal client executives
Familiar with the use of project management tools, practices and templates, and includes the ability to select, develop and/or customize the project approach and identify and use the most appropriate set of tools/templates and for his/her projects.
High level of written & verbal communication skills
Organized thinker, adept at planning & project management
Positive attitude with an confident view of problem solving and conflict management
Proficient written, oral and presentation skills at all levels. Is successful in a variety of settings: one-on-one, small and mid size groups, peers and superiors
Proven ability to lead and develop effective teams through good communication, performance management, development planning and reward / recognition practices
Results oriented
Strong work ethic along with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one’s work while appreciating and recognizing the value of others
Successfully leads groups through organizational tactical initiatives
